As a trailblazing endeavor, the School of Sports Science hopes to establish an ecosystem for sports entrepreneurship, teaching, training, and research.

On the fringes of the National Conclave on Sports Science, which was organized by the Sports Psychology Association of India, Kumaraguru College of Liberal Arts and Science (KCLAS) in Coimbatore on Friday opened its School of Sports Science as a prelude to the start of the B.Sc. Sports Science program.
As a trailblazing endeavor, the School of Sports Science hopes to establish an ecosystem for sports entrepreneurship, teaching, training, and research.
In his keynote speech, Ranveet Gill, the founder of New Horizons Alliance Pvt Ltd., stated that incorporating sports into the official school system will increase India’s medal total in the Olympics.

India, with its 1.4 billion people, is the youngest country in the world, yet only 6% of its citizens participate in sports, thus there should be more opportunities for them to play. Then and only then will there be a larger gene pool for medal winners to come from and for the success to permeate the nation and change it in ways that go well beyond the realm of athletics. According to Mr. Gill, there will be cross-pollination and a transfer of sporting brilliance to other spheres of life.

Sports Science

According to him, sports science re-engineers, re-defines, and repurposes the talents of athletes who need both psychological support and extensive training to manage highs and lows at an early age.

During his speech, David V. Rajan, the founder of Ortho-One Orthopaedic Speciality Centre, stated that sports science was becoming more and more popular in response to the need for non-surgical sports medicine therapies.
In response to the extraordinary efforts made by the Central and State governments for sports activities, the institution created a formal ecosystem to foster and generate excellence in sports, allowing it to maximize India’s demographic dividend. Shankar Vanavarayar, president of Kumaraguru Institutions, presided over the event.

According to him, sports have matured in the nation and are now promoting growth in a number of areas, including media space, youth development, health and fitness, and data analytics.

According to KCLAS Principal Vijila Kennedy, the three-day event has drawn 40 speakers from seven states on sports, as well as 51 professionals from the sports industry. In addition, there are several faculty members from sports colleges and schools, student-athletes, sports research scholars, representatives from sports associations and sports academies, and sports entrepreneurs.
